In sy eenvoudigste vorm is korrupsie die misbruik van posisie vir onregmatige voordeel. As ek dus my posisie as minister sou gebruik om my seun te bevoordeel sonder dat hy dit verdien het, dan het ek korrupsie gepleeg. As ek geld sou kry om ʼn kontrak aan ʼn maatskappy toe te staan wat nie noodwendig die beste was, of die korrekte prosedure gevolg het nie, dan is ek besig om korrupsie te pleeg. Korrupsie is verkeerd, want dit is oneerlik, en dit is misbruik van ʼn openbare posisie vir persoonlike gewin.

Hoe maklik is die paragraaf hierbo nie om te verstaan nie? Dit is eenvoudig, dit is voor die hand liggend, en ek is seker dat enige negejarige kind dit sal verstaan. Waarom, as dit so eenvoudig is, is dit so moeilik vir ons ampsdraers om na te kom?

Twee weke terug is die nuussiklus tot oorlopens toe vol gewees met Nhlanhla Nene, minister van finansies, se ontmoetings met die Gupta-familie, en sy seun se lening by die Openbare Beleggingsmaatskappy. Verlede week is die nuus tjokkenblok vol met die R16 miljoen-betaling wat Brian Shivambu, broer van LP, Floyd Shivambu, by die sinkende VBS-bank ontvang het – blykbaar vir “konsultasie” die kulkunswoord van ons tyd. Hierdie week is dit weer die Suid-Afrikaanse Inkomstediens (SAID), en belastingbetalersgeld wat vir persoonlike regskoste gebruik is.

Mens sou ʼn weddenskap kon aangaan dat daar volgende week nog ʼn skandaal gaan wees, en mens sou sekerlik reg wees. Ons land het duidelik ʼn massiewe korrupsieprobleem. Dit word deur hulle in topposisies as normaal beskou, as die ding wat mens doen wanneer jy ʼn magsposisie beklee. En die leiers van die staatsinstelling dien natuurlik as mentors en voorbeeldstellers vir hulle in laer posisies – so korrupsie bly net vir ʼn kort rukkie die uitsondering, dit word baie vinnig die reël. In Suid-Afrika is dit duidelik lankal die reël.

Die Suid-Afrikaanse belastingbetaler betaal maandeliks getrou – eintlik gedwonge – sy of haar geldjies oor aan die regering. Hierdie geld sien ons bitter min van, met groot kruisings wat daagliks sonder verkeersligte moet funksioneer, staatligte wat ʼn lukrake byvoordeel geword het, en staatskole wat in baie gevalle nie naastenby funksioneer nie. Die verskoning vir alles hier bo genoem is in meeste gevalle “ ʼn tekort aan befondsing”. Dié “tekort” word duidelik aangehelp deur ons regering se liefde vir hande-onder-die-tafel-besigheid – iets wat duidelik nie binnekort gaan stop nie.

Nog ʼn week, nog ʼn skandaal, nog ʼn onthulling dat iemand in ʼn magsposisie nie gedink het aan die mense in Suid-Afrika nie, maar aan sy of haar eie sak. Dit kan nie so aangaan nie, dit kan nie. Een van twee dinge sal gebeur:

  1. Óf die openbare sektor gaan inmekaar tuimel, onmagtig om die las van groeiende korrupsie te dra, om basiese dienste te lewer vanweë ʼn tekort aan fondse en hulpbronne, en om die maagkanker wat hom van binne af verorber uit te sny, totdat die hele sisteem inplof.
  2. Óf elke persoon in ʼn openbare amp sal ʼn lang kykie in die spieël moet neem, en besef dat die doel van staatsamptenare slegs beteken om die burgers van daardie staat te dien.

Korrupsie is diefstal, maar in plaas daarvan dat iets sigbaar en tasbaar gesteel word, word ʼn land se toekoms onder die voete van sy burgers uit gesteel.

Dit sluit dus die sogenaamde “korrupsievrye” DA in, asook die sogenaamde “wedergebore Christene” van die ACDP (Wat maak hulle met die bybelteks wat sê dis makliker vir n kameel om deur die oog van n naald te gaan as vir n ryk mens om in die hemel te kom?)

BY al hierdie groot salarisse kom nog die volgende:
lekker huise vir ministers, premiers en burgermeesters

verniet vlieg
onthaaltoelae
Tel alles bymekaar, OOK die lekker byvoordele, en jy besef dat amper die totale lewenskoste van AL hierdie verkose politici deur gewone Suid-Afrikaners se belastinggeld gedek word. Die meeste van daardie vet salarisse word gespaar. Dit word nie op duur kos en duur petrol uitgegee nie en wanneer dit wel daarop uitgegee word, is dit nie duur vir hulle nie omdat hulle salarisse so reusagtig groot is.
So met meeste van daardie geld gespaar, bou ELKE verkose politikus lekker aan sy eie Nkandla. Die lekker goed wat hulle met daardie geld doen, lyk net nie alles soos die regte Nkandla nie.
