Die strand by Brenton-on-Sea naby Knysna in die Wes-Kaap is vir die publiek gesluit nadat ʼn walviskarkas daar uitgespoel het.
Volgens die Knysna-munisipaliteit is die strand tot verdere kennisgewing gesluit. Die ingang na Brenton-on-Sea van Buffelsbaai-strand is ook gesluit. “Ons vra inwoners en besoekers om nie die gebied te besoek nie,” het die munisipaliteit in ʼn verklaring gesê.
Jerome Simonis, stasiebevelvoerder van die Nasionale Seereddingsinstituut (NSRI) in Knysna, het gesê ʼn toename in haai-aktiwiteit word verwag weens die karkas en dat die strand om dié rede gesluit is.
Die munisipaliteit het gesê hy is besig om saam met SANparke en Cape Nature planne te finaliseer om die karkas te verwyder.
So please explain why I should not come visit the area due to a shark in the water? Is there something I’m missing here?
@Steve, do you have a death wish? If not, stay away from that area for (1) you could be attacked by a white shark which intentions were to feed on the whale carcass, but then you came along and you were mistakenly seen as a rob (natural prey to white sharks) and (2) a visit/walk along the shoreline with the whale carcass on it can certainly not be pleasant – just imagine the stench and the ‘screaming’ of the birds of prey feeding on it.
